windows explorer slowly, and with mockery, loops until the dreaded reboot

This would drive me nuts.  If it happened to me, I might be apt to stick a boot in one of the peripherals.  Good thing I haven't booted up a Windows operating system, without virtualization for years (except when using other, less enlightened boxes which are not of my own).
