BloGTK Ubuntu Lucid Lynx Dependency Fix: gtkhtml2 (python-gtkhtml2)

16 June, 2010 13:22 CST6CDT

BloGTK screen-shot"BloGTK is a weblog client that allows you to post to your weblog from GNOME without the need for a separate browser window. BloGTK allows you to connect with many weblog systems such as Blogger, Movable Type, WordPress, and more. BloGTK is written using Python and PyGTK, and is designed to be fast and simple to use." - [BloGTK]

The new Ubuntu LTS (Lucid Lynx) release had removed the dependency python-gtkhtml2 which is required by BloGTK.  You may track the bug #538773 [here].

The error message when starting the application BloGTK with this missing package is as follows:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/blogtk", line 14, in <module>
    import gtkhtml2
ImportError: No module named gtkhtml2

I resolved the dependency issue by installing the package python-gtkhtml2 from the Debian Testing Package Repository located [here].  This has resolved all issues and errors allowing BloGTK to run as expected.

The Debian Stable package will not install as it requires << python-2.6.  python-gtkhtml2 has been removed from Debian Experimental all together.

Cheers!
