what Easter means to me

16 April, 2006 12:40

It’s Easter once again. The whole idea growing up and celebrating this day literally boggles my mind. Many of you know that I dedicate to no one religious belief and feel that my interpretation of a higher power is somewhat unique, but also my views are shared by many others.

Each year my family gets together, mostly for the young cousins and friends. I have to admit it has always been a good time. I love food and there is always plenty of that to go around. The weather has generally been cold the last couple years, but it has still been comfortable to be outside. So it is not in any way a religious respect we show. In no means what so ever, as far as I know, my uncles and grandmother who grew up catholic share in no religious belief that make this day a sanction. So when thinking about this, each year we have been worshiping a German folk lore called the Easter bunny.

We are not alone. Christianity usually incorporates this funny step of fun into the day. For the rest of us, whether we be of a religion that respects the spiritual power of the universe, or the man on the moon, I would think it would be quite a blow to the Christians knowing that this day, when I was young, was an excuse to find Easter eggs, eat candy, and play kick ball. Not celebrate a birth. That is what this day has always meant to me, and what it will always mean to me. I may now supplement kickball for beer, and candy with some bloody meat, but all in all, it is the same.

Sorry I can’t be there this year guys!
