MR COFFEE CG Series (CGX9) 5 Cup Coffee Maker Reviewed

06 May, 2011 05:07 CST6CDT

The Mr. Coffee CG Series coffee makers includes a 5 cup glass or stainless steel pot unit.  My previous CG series coffee maker was glass.  This coffee maker worked beautifully for 5 years brewing tasty and robust coffee.  Most retail coffee makers on the market last only a couple of months unless you shop appropriately and are willing to invest a good chunk of cash.  Since I had such good luck with the glass MR. COFFEE CG series brewer, I decided to replace it with the same model, though this time I went with the stainless steel pot instead of the glass pot version in this series.

COFFEEMAKER FEATURES AND BENEFITS

  • Brewing Capacity - 5 cups
  • Brew Basket with Removable Filter Basket - Lifts out for fast and easy cleaning and filling.
  • Pause`n Serve - Allows you up to 30 seconds to pour a cup of coffee while the coffeemaker is still brewing.  Carefully remove the decanter and the Pause`n Serve feature will be automatically activated, temporarily stopping the flow of coffee into the decanter.
  • Dual Water Windows - Show amount of water in the reservoir for accurate filling.
  • Non-Stick Warming Plate - Allows you to keep your coffee hot after brewing.  The non-stick attribute prevents the decanter from sticking to the surface of the warming plate.
  • Cord Storage - Safely stores excess cord to keep your counter top neat.
  • On/Off Indicator Light - Lets you know when your coffeemaker is "on."
  • Additional Programming Control Features:
    • - Clock - Serves as a handy kitchen clock and allows you to set the Delay Brew feature.
    • - Delay Brew - Allows you to preset when you would like the coffeemaker to automatically brew your coffee, up to 24 hours in advance.
    • - One-Hour Auto Shut-Off - Keeps your coffee warm for 1 hour after you brew, then automatically turns off.

My 5-cup glass version of the CG series coffee maker from Mr. Coffee lasted over 5 years until I put extreme pressure on the handle attached to the glass.  I had put this amount of pressure, and more on the glass in the past, however its time had come and it was a no brain decision to which I would replace this unit with - the same unit with a stainless steal pot instead of glass, the CGX9.

I was able to find the Mr. Coffee CGX9 5-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black with Stainless Steel Carafe for $27.76 on amazon.com.

Omission Bias

03 April, 2011 11:22 CST6CDT

There are four people stuck on a train track.  You are in the train.  The operator is incapacitated and you don't know how to work the breaks.  You do see a lever however that would put the train on an alternative track.  However, there is one person stuck on this track.  Would you switch tracks to save 4 people but kill one or would you do nothing?

There are four people stuck on a train track.  You are on a bridge overpass on top of the train tracks.  There is one other person that you do not know including yourself looking at the appending doom of these four stuck people.  This other person is big and heavy enough where if he were to be put into the path of the oncoming train, the train would stop before hitting the four people ahead.  Would you push him off the overpass?

The omission bias is an alleged type of cognitive bias. It is the tendency to judge harmful actions as worse, or less moral than equally harmful omissions (inactions). It is contentious as to whether this represents a systematic error in thinking, or is supported by a substantive moral theory. For a consequentialist, judging harmful actions as worse than inaction would indeed be inconsistent, but deontological ethics may, and normally does, draw a moral distinction between doing and allowing.

Smith's Cycling and Fitness - Re-Built Summer Transportation

03 April, 2011 06:39 CST6CDT

My bike was in great need of an overhaul tune-up.  I took it to the Smith's Cycling and Fitness where I bought the bike to get a tune-up/maintenance and replace a number of parts.

Where I live, most places are very accessible by bike.  With gas prices, car maintenance, and insurance, I rely heavily on my Trek for daily transportation in conjunction with the bus in which the La Crosse MTU allows you to tow your gear along with you to your destination.

I now have, what feels like, a brand new bike.  In fact, it rides better than when I purchased it new.  This is my list of modifications and parts:

  1. Bicycle Check #1 (I managed to shave $20 off this cost) $19.99
  2. Replaced De-railer Cable $5.00
  3. Replaced the 7 Speed Back Tire Gears $19.99
  4. Replaced Internal De-railer Cable $3.99
  5. De-railer Cable Housing $4.50
  6. New Front Brakes $9.99
  7. New Back Brakes $9.99
  8. New Chain $6.00
  9. SRAM $18.99

With parts and labor, minus $20.00, the total came to $110.19.  They did an amazing job.  Thanks Smith's!

Michael Moore - Stephen Colbert a tool of Viacom Video

29 March, 2011 11:13 CST6CDT

Below is the video recording of Michael Moore on yesterday's TV show of the Colbert Report in which Michael Moore called Stephen Colbert a 'tool of Viacom' while proving the prosperity of work unions and defending the middle class.  He was immediately taken off of the air following that comment.  Michael Moore is a beautiful man.
