GoDaddy unauthorized updates to my installed services - update
30 September, 2007 16:28
In response to my complaint to GoDaddy about unauthorized updates to my installed services, I received this reply:
"...Please note that any updates to Simple Control Panel may cause configuration changes on your server, and by default, servers running Simple Control Panel use our repositories. ..."
Right off the bat too note, changes to server options using the control panel don't result in automatic software updates, but rather simple control panel controls the system software and all of it's components - but because the default installed system services have dependencies on the control panel, any changes to the control panel version (which GoDaddy apparently has complete control over), results in updating any relevant software dependencies. I am not 100% sure this is accurate, however after reading the response, this sounds like a solid conclusion.
I must also stress that by default, my server did not use GoDaddy's repositories. As I spewed in my last post in regards, this is what tipped me off to all the changes that were made.
In any case, removing Simple Control Panel would be quite a project. I wonder how they would respond to a knoppix type installation using their kernel and libc...
Travel Show Podcast, audio adventures from distant and not so distant lands
29 September, 2007 03:15
The Travel Show Podcast takes you on tour of distant and foreign lands by describing travel adventures from the travelers themselves.
The first show I listened too after finding this podcast was a journey to Madrid Spain. The traveler described being pick-pocketed by gypsies, and then confronted them, finding himself surrounded and in a sticky situation. The temperature calmed down a bit when they started conversing about each others origins, and they realized the wallet that they had, contained no currency. They later invited him to a pub, which he refused - a rightly good decision if I must say.
I can only describe the atmosphere of the show as being a free forum for the free wonderer. The conversations were relaxed and very interesting giving new perspective to other parts of this world by young and adventurous travelers.
Yahoo! has integrity not found with most online service providers, thanks!

As promised, Yahoo! refunded my purchase of Yahoo! Mail Plus. I was having trouble getting a hold of them for that, but it was needless, as it was taken care of earlier this month. I will now enjoy and utilize Mail Plus for the rest of this term, and most likely years to come. Thanks!

Here is a link to a video on Gizmodo with an Apple representative explaining to a customer that because there was third party software installed on his IPhone, he would have to wait for a 3rd party hacker to remedy the problem. [Link Here]

13,000 watt solar dish for purposes of fire and destruction of all things possible
23 September, 2007 20:30
A group of people with a mission put together a 112 mirror death ray using a large C band dish. Why would you want to generate 13,000 watts of sun tapped power? To burn, scorch, and melt things of course. [link here] Thanks Mad-Geek!
