Helichrysum

21 June, 2006 12:29 CST6CDT

Between rent and credit card bills I rarely get the chance to purchase new essential oils. However, when I noticed this deal, I knew right away I had to give it a try - Helichrysum (copper free).

I still had a few drops left from the batch I ordered about six months ago, and this is one oil I do not want to run out of, so I grabbed a bottle of the batch right away. Helichrysum is the king (or queen) of essential oils. The uses are numerous. I decided on the 10% dilution in fractioned coconut oil.

Absolutly incredible! I have black rings under my eyes, and they cleared up within a few days of applying the oil. Thanks!

Bergamot

Here is an article about the success in Bergamot farming.

I have a few ounces of organic bergamot which I mainly use for tea. Take some black tea, such as english breakfast, add a drop of organic bergamot, and walla, instant earl grey.

Good stuff!

the oils are here

My store is slowly coming along. I can see why they release an API for the web based configuration manager. It is one of the most feature rich, yet complicated applications for the sales of products on the net that I have come across. However, since installing it, I have been learning and discovering that this is the right application for my needs and for my ability to use it as such.

Today I received my order of essential oils to start out this free-lance project. 5 pounds of oils total.

Before I sell these oils, in 5ml batches, my to-do list includes:

  • Refine the on-line store
  • Obtain a labeling application
  • Order the bottles (found an excellent source)
  • And finally figure out the legality and responsibilities for the distribution of the products.

essential oils

11 March, 2006 00:06 CST6CDT

This is my fourth attempt at creating an e-commerce site to sell essential oils. In the past I have been hindered by financial distractions and overpriced distributation of the oils.

I am doing it this time. The domain has been registered. The domain name is easy to remember, simple to type, and related to aromatherapy.

The commerce software has been installed. However, the to-do list for configuring the system, the template, inventory, etc will take me another month or so for my satisfaction. I am doing this mostly for fun, so I am under no sort of contract to have the e-commerce site up and running in any specific time.

I set up a merchant account to receive payments for orders, and the commerce application, at this point, is configured to utilize these credentials.

I found an essential oil distributor whom I have spoken with once, that are able to provide the oils along with botteling and labeling services.

The theme of the site will be based on variants of a plant species. When the supply runs out, the essential oil will be replaced in it's entirely with a different oil.

I plan on providing detailed information about the products, with the ability to focus upon the specified essential oil because of the scope of the oils I will be providing, will be limited to the species, thus allowing greater focus on the product.

I got the idea from Woot!, whom sell an electronic product each day. I hope to do the same with the essential oils.

I am trying to insert into a database resources for obtaining essential oils directly from import distributors who provide data sheets on the authenticity, farming practices, etc, of the oils.

Any references are welcome.

This is a personal project, rather than a for-profit company. I am having soo much fun gathering the resources to manage orders and inventory.

My friends are going to freak-at-this: Let me explain. I have always used leniently licensed applications for every task I need. I have a linux box, a NetBSD box, and a FreeBSD box. However, I have a licensed copy of Visual Studio and SQL Server.

I decided to create my CRM software using ASP.net and MSSQL. I am loving it, so much fun!

In other words, my project isn't about selling a product or making a profit, but rather it is an outlet where I can explore technology and my hobbie.

What fun!

more on the sandalwood shopping

01 March, 2006 13:38 CST6CDT

OK, so I stopped in the herbal / alternative medicine store on Williamson street in Madison.

Althought they advertise essential oils directly on there store-front window, their selection was rather limited.

Aside from the limited selection, the receptionist was not very receptive to my presence; almost annoyed at it. I finally found a vial of sandalwood, 15ml. I asked if she could tell me the country of origin, then she replied with a umm, hmm, umm, took no further action, and discontinued the conversation.

Apparently their customers are not concerned with such important information.

The bottles were poorly labeled, appeared re-packaged, and suspicious at the very least.

Oh well, it was the exact same price I was looking at on my suppliers product page. Although they don't have the selection they used to, they do still sell sandalwood from Tamil. I think I was one of the last to get a hold of a vial of Sandalwood CO2. Ordered a couple of them, love it. There Mysore sandalwood is out of stock also, giving me the impression they are not concerned about providing sandalwood, or ARE concerned about the repracutions of distributing the oil.

The three sources I am looking at now are: Nature's Gift (with the 2002 Tamil), Mountain Rose Herbs (whome I have purchased sandalwood from before, but was not impressed with the oil), and AromaThyme (very expensive, and never purchased sandalwood from before). I will have to get a data sheet from the later if I plan on ordering.

I also visited a stone shop this morning. They had a very interesting stone vial that I was drooling over. Over $90 though, but soo tempting anyway. I would love the fill that with some good sandalwood and seal it up for a few years.

It looks like I will be doing some googling anyway, for the CO2 extract. While I am doing that, I might come acrosse a supplier with aged Mysore sandalwood.

In case some of you think I am off the wall, if you take a good deep breath of aged sandalwood, I am sure you will relate it to an opiate or something similiar. It is absolutely amazing.
