more on the sandalwood shopping

01 March, 2006 13:38

OK, so I stopped in the herbal / alternative medicine store on Williamson street in Madison.

Althought they advertise essential oils directly on there store-front window, their selection was rather limited.

Aside from the limited selection, the receptionist was not very receptive to my presence; almost annoyed at it. I finally found a vial of sandalwood, 15ml. I asked if she could tell me the country of origin, then she replied with a umm, hmm, umm, took no further action, and discontinued the conversation.

Apparently their customers are not concerned with such important information.

The bottles were poorly labeled, appeared re-packaged, and suspicious at the very least.

Oh well, it was the exact same price I was looking at on my suppliers product page. Although they don't have the selection they used to, they do still sell sandalwood from Tamil. I think I was one of the last to get a hold of a vial of Sandalwood CO2. Ordered a couple of them, love it. There Mysore sandalwood is out of stock also, giving me the impression they are not concerned about providing sandalwood, or ARE concerned about the repracutions of distributing the oil.

The three sources I am looking at now are: Nature's Gift (with the 2002 Tamil), Mountain Rose Herbs (whome I have purchased sandalwood from before, but was not impressed with the oil), and AromaThyme (very expensive, and never purchased sandalwood from before). I will have to get a data sheet from the later if I plan on ordering.

I also visited a stone shop this morning. They had a very interesting stone vial that I was drooling over. Over $90 though, but soo tempting anyway. I would love the fill that with some good sandalwood and seal it up for a few years.

It looks like I will be doing some googling anyway, for the CO2 extract. While I am doing that, I might come acrosse a supplier with aged Mysore sandalwood.

In case some of you think I am off the wall, if you take a good deep breath of aged sandalwood, I am sure you will relate it to an opiate or something similiar. It is absolutely amazing.
